Welcome to Ruby class. The class compromises Mr Ricketts (class teacher) and Miss De Castro (Professional Teaching Partner). We look forward to working with you this year.

A Message From Mr Ricketts:

I am happy to be working with the class this year. I have taught all the years in Key Stage 2, from Year 3 to Year 6 and so have a good understanding of what all the year groups entail. We aim to foster a good appreciation of learning and the opportunities it provides to grow, understand and develop positive attitudes.

Learning in Year 5 provides all the pupils with a wealth of experiences and good subject knowledge. We work with The Power of Reading books in writing. They cover a wide range of types of writing including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Children engage with the text including using drama and art. In maths the children learn areas of maths following the mastery approach.

Children learn a range of topics over the year including the The Romans, The Elizabethans, The Stuarts/English Civil War and  The Victorians in history. In science the children gain understanding of the world around them as well as taking part in experiments in Earth and space, animals including humans, properties and changing of materials, living things and their habitat and forces. Children develop their musical appreciation through weekly lessons and engage in developing their balance and dexterity during indoor and outdoor PE lessons. Over the year, the children will also be developing their understanding of Spanish during modern foreign languages lessons and becoming more confident in art mediums such as collage and drawing.

It is our aim to be available to help our students and parents as they make their way through primary school. Please approach us if you have any queries about your child's learning and development at school.
