Welcome to Diamond Class!

Class Teacher: Miss Hillier
Professional Teaching Partner: Mrs DeCastro, Mrs Carrick

Welcome to Diamond class, compromising of Miss Hillier (class teacher), Mrs DeCastro and Mrs Carrick (professional teaching partners). We look forward to working with you this year.

A Message From Miss Hillier:

I am delighted to be working with Diamond class this year! Mrs DeCastro, Mrs Carrick and I are passionate about developing children into resilient, lifelong learners, and strive to provide opportunities for all children to succeed.

Learning in Year 5 bestows pupils with a wealth of experiences and subject knowledge. Children will be introduced to a wide variety of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts, serving to inspire their writing, artwork and drama performances. In maths, we follow a mastery approach and encourage children to challenge themselves by finding different and creative ways of solving mathematical problems.

Children will continue to develop their understanding of the wider world in their topic lessons. Across Science and Geography, children will be excited to explore Earth and space, forces and biomes; in their History lessons, children will discover what life was like for the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings.

Children will develop their musical appreciation and technical knowledge through weekly lessons with a focus on playing glockenspiel, will engage in developing their balance and dexterity during indoor and outdoor PE, and will continue to enjoy immersive Spanish lessons. Building on the skills that they have refined over previous school years, children will become more confident in art mediums such as collage, drawing and colour mixing.

It is our aim to be available to help our students and parents as they make their way through primary school. Please approach us if you have any queries about your child's learning and development at school.
